Personal Passion Statement
Through positive communication, genuine listening and a desire to engage in creative, critical and playful thinking I undertake to work to inspire and seek inspiration from others.
I currently work as an independent trainer and speaker delivering courses and workshops to a range of client groups. These include organisations like QA cic, Penwith Community Development Trust, Volunteer Cornwall as well as schools, colleges and universities. In the past, I have worked on a consultant-trainer level with Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs, The Eden Project as well as national and multinational companies like JAD Logic, GE Money and Xerox.
I left University in 1980 with a BSc (Hons) in Geology and Geography and progressed through a number of CPD routes to gain qualifications in Counselling, Therapy, Thinking Skills, NLP, IT and a PhD in Psychology. Since then I have continued to explore and extend my skills through on-going professional development which has included Parapsychology through the Koestler Institute based at Edinburgh University, Buddhism and Psychology (Distance Learning Harvard University) and several other courses related to my specific interests in NLP and coaching.
I have taught at all levels from primary school to Masters level degree delivering a diverse range of material including Drama and Play Therapy, Thinking Skills, Behaviour Management and Learning to Learn. In the process I have been awarded two innovation awards in developing materials for learner motivation and peer mentoring. In 2010 I worked on the creation of a CPD evaluation framework for the South West Learning Partnership.
I was Director of Penwith Community Radio (now Coast FM) seeing the station develop from an internet only station to its launch as a local FM radio station in August 2014. Stepping down as Director in 2016, I still act as Station Manager and have a regular news and views show (Coast to Coast).
At Foundation Degree and Degree level, I have been involved with teaching and assessment of projects, portfolios and presentations. Clearly when delivering NLP courses specifically I have assessed work and practice at Practitioner and Master Practitioner level.
Work related to the development of the CPD evaluation framework involved not only the assessment of a process, but also exploring ways to assess needs and outcomes from a CPD programme for all stakeholders.
Currently in my work with QAcic I am involved in the assessment of learners work at Levels 2, 3 and 5 according to standards agreed by AptEd and NOCN. Courses delivered through QAcic include Awards and Certificates in Education and Training, NLP levels 3 and 5 (course which I co-developed with QAcic) and Emotional Intelligence Key Skills.
I am the Director of Inspire NLP, my own company dedicated to developing human potential. I also serve as Director of Hearts & Minds, Learning & Development CIC, and am co-founder and Director of the Cornwall School of Mystery and Magick.
I have been involved with Drama Education (TIE) and have taught Drama to A level as well as Directing a number of amateur productions. I currently present Mentalism/Mind Reading shows as well as evenings of Mystery Entertainment. This aspect of my work can be found on my Enigmatist website.
